‘Cats Close Non-Conference Play at No. 4 TCU

9/3/2025 3:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern women's soccer concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Thursday evening when it visits No. 4 TCU at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

The Wildcats (3-1-2) are coming off a 1-0 win over Butler on Sunday, their third shutout of the year. Sophomore Kate Hennen scored her first goal of the season in the 49th minute to seal the victory, her first career game-winner.

First-year goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson notched her third shutout of the season in Sunday's victory. She ranks second in the Big Ten and eighth nationally with three shutouts on the 2025 campaign. Nelson's three clean sheets are fifth-most by a first-year goalkeeper in school history.

NU boasts a 20-4-6 record (.767 winning percentage) in regular season non-conference play since 2022. Its 20 regular season non-conference wins are tied for the second-most in the Big Ten over that span.

Alex Fallon and Liz Cardwell lead the 'Cats and rank second in the Big Ten with three assists each, making Northwestern one of only two Big Ten teams to have multiple players with three or more assists (Nebraska).

Cardwell logged two assists in NU's 2-2 draw at Milwaukee, becoming the first Wildcat to record multiple assists in the same game since Meg Boade recorded a pair of helpers in a 3-0 win on October 20, 2023 against Minnesota. She is also the first Wildcat first-year to add two assists in a game since Caterina Regazzoni did so in a 4-2 win on September 22, 2022 at Nebraska. Thursday will mark the second meeting all-time between TCU and Northwestern. The 'Cats took down the Horned Frogs 2-1 in overtime in Fort Worth on Nov. 1, 1998. NU is also 0-1-1 against the No. 4 ranked team in the country in the last decade and it has not beaten a top-10 team since its 1-0 victory over No. 6 Stanford at home on September 8, 2022.

The Horned Frogs (4-0) are ranked No. 4 in the country after their first 4-0 start since 2021, which includes a win over No. 9 Iowa. TCU paces the Big 12 in shot accuracy (0.571), ranks eighth in the nation in assists per game (3.5) and ranks 18th in the country in scoring offense (3.25 goals per game).

Sophomore TCU goalkeeper Olivia Geller leads the Big 12 in saves per game (four), and senior forward Seven Castain leads in the Big 12 in shots per game (4.5).

After Thursday's clash, Northwestern will open up Big Ten play on Friday, Sept. 12 at Iowa. Kickoff from Iowa City is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on B1G+.
