IRVING, Texas – Graduate student defensive lineman Aidan Hubbard was named one of 177 semifinalists for the 2025 William V Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced Wednesday morning.
The Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. Semifinalists were selected from all NCAA divisions, as well as the NAIA.
Nominees must be a senior who will complete his final season of eligibility in the 2025 season or a graduate student or graduate transfer who has already earned a degree and is participating in the 2025 season, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. Each school is limited to one nomination.
"This year's 177 semifinalists represent the very best of what it means to play college football," NFF Chairman Archie Manning said in the award's release. "They have excelled in the classroom, distinguished themselves on the field and proven to be leaders in their communities. The Campbell Trophy stands as a reminder that football develops complete individuals and these young men embody that tradition at the highest level."
In his first three games of 2025, Hubbard has recorded nine total tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. The edge rusher has posted 14 career sacks and became the first Wildcat to post 6.0 sacks in consecutive seasons since Joe Gaziano did so in 2018-19.
Off the field, Hubbard is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, a member of Northwestern's leadership council and he earned his bachelor's degree in Learning and Organizational Change with a minor in Business Institutions.
The NFF will announce 12-16 finalists on Oct. 22. Each finalist will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2025 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner will be held on Dec. 9 at the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, where one member of the class will be declared winner of the Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
