CONGAREE, S.C. – After being named an All-American by both Golfweek and the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) for the second consecutive season, Northwestern senior Lauryn Nguyen has been selected to represent the United States Women's Team at the 2025 Arnold Palmer Cup, June 5-7, at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
Team USA begins their quest to win their third straight Palmer Cup when the matches tee off at 9:00 am CT on Thursday. Round 1 – played as mixed four-ball pairings – will see Nguyen paired with Wells Williams (Vanderbilt/USA) vs. Charlie Forster (Long Beach State/International)/Lauren Kim (Texas/International), starting at 10:45 am CT.
Palmer Cup competition is nothing new for the Wildcats as Irene Kim represented the United States in 2021 and Stephanie Lau (United States) and David Nyfjäll (International) both competed in the 2019 event. NU men's golf head coach David Inglis helmed Team Europe at the 20th anniversary Palmer Cup at Atlanta Athletic Club in 2017, becoming the first person to both play and coach in the prestigious event. He represented Great Britain & Ireland in 2001 and was a member of the first European team, winners of the 2003 matches. He also served as an assistant coach in the matches in 2011 and 2012, helping the squad make a huge final day comeback to claim the Cup.
Nguyen joins the 24-player roster composed of 12 women and 12 men coached by South Carolina's Kalen Anderson and Auburn's Nick Clinard.
Nguyen finished her storied Wildcat career as one of the most accomplished golfers in program history. An All-Big Ten golfer in each of her four seasons, Nguyen holds the lowest career scoring average in program history with an average of 72.42 across four years (minimum 75 rounds), and led the team with six top-10 finishes en route to the Wildcats' first national championship.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Fla. in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top women's and men's university/college golfers matching the United States against a team of International players. The Palmer Cup has been played at some of the world's greatest courses, including The Old Course at St Andrews, The Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Baltusrol, The Honors Course, Cherry Hills, and Lahinch. Beginning with the 2018 matches at Evian Resort Golf Club, the Palmer Cup is the only major tournament that features women and men playing side-by-side as partners.
The United States leads the Palmer Cup series 15-12-1. For more information, visit arnoldpalmercup.com.
