EVANSTON, Ill. (June 20, 2025) – Following a highly-decorated career with the Northwestern University lacrosse program, Sammy White (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) will join the Wildcats' women's basketball team as a graduate student for the 2025-26 season, head coach Joe McKeown announced on Friday.
"We are really excited to have Sammy as part of our program," McKeown said. "She brings incredible passion, along with a highly competitive attitude to the court! Sammy is one of the best lacrosse players Northwestern has ever seen and enjoyed a terrific high school basketball career in Maryland. Her toughness and leadership will be a great addition to the Wildcats."
Prior to focusing on lacrosse upon her arrival in Evanston, White, a 5-foot-6 guard, was a three-sport athlete at Dulaney High School, where she played lacrosse, basketball, and soccer. On the hardwood, White was a member of the Lions' 1,000-point club, a feat she accomplished in just three varsity seasons. As a junior, she averaged 23 points per game.
For her efforts across all three sports in high school, White was recognized as a two-time Towson Times Female Athlete of the Year award recipient.
White returns to basketball following an outstanding career with the Wildcats' lacrosse program. Recently named to the United States roster for the upcoming Pan-American Lacrosse Association (PALA) Women's Championship, the Timonium, Md. native was a two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection with the 'Cats. Known for her tenacity on the defensive end of the field, White played a starring role in Northwestern's storybook 2023 season, putting up team-high marks in both ground balls (42) and caused turnovers (31), as the Wildcats' surged to the program's eighth NCAA National Championship.
White joins an incoming signing class that also features graduate transfer Tate Walters (Buford, Ga./Buford/Furman), redshirt senior Daija Turner (Fayetteville, N.C./Village Christian Academy/TCU), and first-year Angelina Hodgens (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By-The-Sea).
