Junior shatters second school record of 2025

EAST LANSING, Mich. (April 4, 2025) – Skye Ellis turned in another impressive performance en route to shattering the program record in the 1,500m run and finishing atop the leaderboard, as Northwestern cross country saw action at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.

Ellis was outstanding today on a cold afternoon at Ralph Young Field.  Running in the seeded section of the 1,500m run, the Jan Juc, Australia native surged through with a time of 4:23.78, an effort aided by a blistering 1:08.58 push across her final 400m, to finish just over two seconds clear of Bowling Green's Kylee Cubbison (4:25.74) in the battle for first place.  Since the start of the Wildcats' track schedule in January, Ellis has four victories to her name.

Competing alongside Ellis in the opening heat of the 1,500m run, Anna Hightower battled her way to a top-five overall finish, posting a time of 4:29.66 that saw her land fourth.

The pairing of Kailey Zagst and Whitney Currie led the Northwestern attack in the 5,000m run to open the morning just outside of Michigan's state capital.  Making her collegiate debut in the event, Zagst clocked a time of 17:56.32 to bring home an eighth-place finish.  Currie joined her in the top 10, crossing in 18:08.96 on her way to a 10th-place finish.

In her first appearance of the 2024-25 campaign, Deepti Choudhury placed 21st in 19:12.79.

Northwestern will be idle for just under three weeks before it competes at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday, April 24 in Philadelphia, Pa.
