Wildcats enter postseason with best national ranking in program history

EVANSTON, Ill. (October 21, 2025) – Fresh off an outstanding showing at the Nuttycombe Invitational, Northwestern cross country has rocketed up to No. 8 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, which was released on Tuesday by the organization.

Piloted by seventh-year head coach Jill Miller, Northwestern has been a fixture in the USTFCCCA rankings since entering the national poll in mid-September.  Following an impressive runner-up finish at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on October 3, the Wildcats entered the top 20 for the first time in program history, moving to No. 18 in the October 7 rankings.

Miller's squad placed fifth overall at the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. last Friday.  The top Big Ten Conference finisher at the meet, the 'Cats posted a team score of 225 en route to defeating 13 nationally ranked foes, including six teams who appeared inside the top 15 of the previous USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll.

Northwestern is back in action on Friday, October 31, when it begins postseason competition at the Big Ten Conference Championships in East Lansing, Mich.  Live coverage will be provided by Big Ten Network.
