Henning Signs Contract with Miami Dolphins

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern wide receiver A.J. Henning has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins, per Priority Sports.
A local product from Frankfort, Ill., Henning led the Wildcats this past season with 59 catches for 603 yards (10.2 ypc) and four touchdowns. He was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention as a specialist, returning 12 punts for 136 yards (11.3). His average of 11.3 yards per return were the fifth highest in the Big Ten and the most in a season by a Wildcat since Venric Mark posted 18.7 yards per return in 2012.
He set multiple career benchmarks in 2024, reaching 100+ receiving yards for the first time in his career with 117 receiving yards on seven receptions (16.7) and a touchdown against Eastern Illinois. Henning recorded six catches for 67 yards against Indiana and posted his first career game with two receiving touchdowns. In his final game as a Wildcat, he set career-highs making 10 catches for 119 yards (11.9) against Illinois.
As an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection in 2023, Henning logged 45 catches for 418 yards (9.3) and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 110 yards (7.3) and a score. On special teams, he contributed 10 punt returns for 69 yards (6.9) and 15 kick returns for 330 yards (22.0), which ranked fourth in the Big Ten. He was the only receiver in the conference to post 400+ receiving and 100+ rushing yards during the season, and joined Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. as the only players in the league to record 4+ receiving and 1+ rushing touchdowns. He helped Northwestern to an 8-5 season and a Las Vegas Bowl victory over Utah, recording a season-high six grabs for 57 yards.
Henning played at Michigan (2020-22) for three seasons before joining the Wildcats, and for his collegiate career played in 57 games, making 129 receptions for 1,219 yards (9.4) and eight touchdowns, while rushing 47 times for 304 yards (6.5) and three scores. He returned 79 punts for 680 yards (8.6) and a touchdown and 33 kicks for 748 yards (22.7) and a score.
