'Cats Travel South to UIC for Midweek

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern baseball will travel south to UIC for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 1 at 5 p.m. CT.
Northwestern secured its second-consecutive series win for the first time since April 1-10, 2022, taking two out of three games at Maryland last weekend. The Wildcats (12-13, 5-4 Big Ten) are off to their best start to conference play through nine games since 2021, when the 'Cats started 6-3 in league play. The series win marked Northwestern's first series win at Maryland since May 12-14, 2017.
Northwestern recorded 10+ hits in all three games this weekend. The Wildcats have recorded double-digit hits 10 times this season and seven times in nine Big Ten games.Nine different Wildcats logged at least one hit on Friday and Saturday, and seven different 'Cats recorded a hit on Sunday.As a team, the Wildcats hit .389 with 12 home runs, nine doubles, scoring 35 runs over three games.
In three games at Maryland, OF Jackson Freeman went 8-for-16, slashing .615/.643/1.308 with two home runs, three doubles, nine RBI, six runs, a stolen base, and a walk. Freeman recorded multiple hits and at least one run in all three games of the weekend series.
INF Trent Liolios hit three home runs at Maryland, bringing his season total to 12 and his Big Ten total to a conference-best eight. Liolios' 12 home runs are tied for 11th nationally and rank tied for sixth-most in a season in Northwestern history. Liolios raised his slugging percentage to a Big Ten-leading .857, 14th-best nationally.
Tuesday's meeting will mark the second of the season for Northwestern and UIC, after the two teams met on March 12, a 5-2 UIC win. Northwestern is 71-34-1 all-time against UIC. The Wildcats are seeking their first win over the Flames since May 2, 2023.
UIC (6-20, 2-4 Missouri Valley) ranks fifth in the Missouri Valley in fielding percentage (.972). OF Luke Nowak leads the Flames in batting average (.369), runs scored (21), and doubles (six).
Northwestern will resume Big Ten play this weekend when it hosts Iowa for a three-game series at Miller Park. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT, with Saturday and Sunday slated for 1 p.m. CT. Saturday's game will be broadcast on BTN, with Friday and Sunday's games set to be streamed on B1G+.
