FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Northwestern men's swimming and diving team concluded their season this weekend in Federal Way, Wash. as eight members of the team competed in 11 events at the NCAA Championships.

Seven Wildcat swimmers and one diver punched their tickets to the NCAAs: Stuart Seymour, David Gerchik, Joshua Staples, Tyler Lu, Cade Duncan, Connor Schuster, Diego Nosack, and Kyle Ly. The 11 events included the 50 free, 100 back, 100 free, 200 back, 200 IM, 500 free, 1650 free, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay and platform diving.

"This group of swimmers and divers is almost exclusively made up of first-years and sophomores, so it speaks to where we want to take this program," said director of swimming and diving Rachel Stratton-Mills. "By qualifying fifteen men and women to the top event in the country, and by breaking five school records this postseason, it shows our student-athletes what the possibilities are when they work hard. On behalf of our entire team, I'd like to thank every member of Northwestern Athletics and the NU community who has contributed to our program. We took major steps this year and we are already looking forward to next season."

Northwestern had two of their strongest swimmers, Seymour and Gerchik, in the 100 back. Seymour tied for 16th with a 45.22, leading to a swim-off where he improved his time by 11-one-hundredths of a second but was defeated by Cal's Bjorn Seeliger. Gerchik swam a 45.73 to finish T-29th.

In the 200 medley relay, Gerchik, Lu, Seymour and Duncan clocked 1:24.78 to finish in 21st place.

In the 400 medley relay, the same foursome put up a 3:05.92, good enough for 24th.

Senior Tyler Lu, in a full circle moment, returned to the pool that he'd grown up at for his first NCAA Championships. Lu swam the 200 IM in 1:42.59, rounding out the Top 25 in the country.

Swimming the 1650 free, often referred to as the mile, Staples finished in 29th place with a time of 14:59.42. In the 500 free, Staples, a native of Brisbane, Australia, had a time of 4:24.44 to place 47th.

Gerchik finished 33rd in the 200 back, putting up a 1:42.20.

The 50 free saw Seymour touch in 19.50, competing with the best collegiate swimmers. His time placed him 47th. Seymour clocked a 42.71 in the 100 free, earning him a tie for 52nd. Nosack served as the team's relay alternate.

In the platform diving competition, first-year Kyle Ly scored 306.80 to finish in 26th place.

On the team side, Texas, California and Indiana finished 1-2-3.

For the men's program, this marks the end of the 2024-2025 season which saw the swim team finish the regular season 8-1 -- including an unblemished 5-0 at home -- and seventh at the Big Ten Championships.

Five (5) school records have been broken this postseason: Seymour (19.22 / 45.07) in the 50 Free and 100 Back, Gerchik/Lu/Seymour/Duncan (3:05.57) in the 400 Medley Relay, Seymour/Duncan/Schuster/Gerchik (2:49.77) in the 400 Free Relay and Joshua Staples (4:13.28) in the 500 Free.
