Svärd Crowned Co-Champion, ‘Cats Place Third at The Goodwin

Stanford, Calif. – Daniel Svärd was crowned co-champion of The Goodwin in Stanford, California, as the Northwestern Men's Golf team returned to action after a two-week break. Svärd tied for first on the leaderboard at 5-under (67-70-68=205) with four other golfers. It was the two-time reigning Big Ten champion's best finish this season.
The Wildcats finished third in a 30-team field in the penultimate event of the regular season. NU shot a 54-hole team score of 839 (282-276-281) to finish at one-under.
UCLA (-11; 283-272-274=829) won the team title by nine strokes over Colorado (-2; 275-285-278=838). The four other golfers who finished tied for first place - shooting a 5-under 205 across the three days – include Little Rock's Freddie Turnell, Utah's Gabriel Palacios, Santa Clara's JP Odland, and BYU's Peter Kim.
Svärd fueled the 'Cats throughout the event, making 10 birdies and an eagle on yesterday's 16th hole, a par 5. His 5-under 205 (67-70-68) kept him near the top of the leaderboard all three days.
Ethan Tseng earned his third Top 25 finish of the season and the 11th of his college career. After a difficult first round, Tseng went on to shoot 68-67 over the two final days. Niall Shiels-Donegan finished just outside the Top 25, shooting two-over and Cameron Adam ended five-over. Archie Finnie, playing in his sixth event this season, rounded out the group for Northwestern.
The Goodwin headed back to Stanford for the first time since 2022 after a two-year stint at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. The 30 teams competed on the par-70, 6,742-yard course that is nearing its 100th year of existence. One of nearly 30 college courses in the country, the Stanford Golf Course has been home to numerous prestigious tournaments and offers stunning views of the Bay Area.
