Northwestern battling for final spot in Big Ten Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. (March 1, 2025) – Northwestern (9-17, 2-15 B1G) brings down the curtain on the 2024-25 regular season on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Nebraska on Senior Day at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Ahead of the 2 p.m. CT tip-off, the Wildcats will honor their graduating senior class in a special ceremony.

With a win over the Cornhuskers, coupled with a Purdue loss and Rutgers win on the final day of the regular season, the 'Cats will clinch a spot in the upcoming Big Ten Conference Tournament.

LAST TIME OUT
Led by 18 points from Caileigh Walsh, three Wildcats scored in double figures as Northwestern fell to Wisconsin, 73-68, last Sunday at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.

Walsh came up just two points shy of matching her season-high point output, while also ripping down eight rebounds and recording a season-high tying three blocks. Melannie Daley added 17 points, 11 of which came during the fourth quarter, as she reached double figures in scoring for the seventh time in eight outings. Since the start of Big Ten Conference play, Walsh and Daley are both averaging just north of 12 points per game.

Taylor Williams put up her 11th double-double of the season, closing her afternoon with 17 points and a team-best 11 rebounds. Caroline Lau dished out seven assists, her 13th game this season with at least seven helpers.

SCOUTING NEBRASKA
Nebraska (18-10, 9-8 B1G) looks to head into the Big Ten Tournament on a high note after falling in its home finale, 83-62, to Washington last Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Cornhuskers enter the regular season's final day as part of a three-team race for a coveted opening-round bye in the upcoming league tournament.

Now in her ninth season leading Nebraska, head coach Amy Williams' team has proven to be one of the Big Ten's best from beyond the three-point arc. The Cornhuskers average a league-high 8.1 triples per contest and operate at a 36.4 percent clip from distance.

Three-time All-Big Ten honoree Alexis Markowski finds herself in a familiar spot for Williams' squad, leading Nebraska across multiple statistical categories. The senior forward averages 16.4 points and 8.1 rebounds, and has 11 double-double showings to her name. Britt Prince, who has missed the Cornhuskers' last two games due to injury, has impressed in her freshman campaign, putting up 12.9 points per game and a team-high 46 steals (1.8 spg).

SERIES STUFF
Nebraska has won six straight meetings against Northwestern, a run that has seen the Cornhuskers widen their lead in the all-time series to 16-8 (.667).

In the lone matchup between the two teams last season, Maggie Pina connected on three treys as part of a team-best 12-point performance, as the 'Cats dropped a 75-50 decision to Nebraska at Pinnacle Bank Arena on February 20, 2024.

The Wildcats will be in-search of their first win over their rival to the west since February 16, 2020 when, behind a game-high 21 points from Veronica Burton, Northwestern roared back to defeat Nebraska, 60-56, inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
