EVANSTON, Ill. (March 2, 2025) – Caileigh Walsh poured in a season-high 22 points, as Northwestern (9-18, 2-16 B1G) wrapped up the 2024-25 regular season with a 98-77 defeat to Nebraska (19-10, 10-8 B1G) this afternoon inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.

How It Happened
Buckets on consecutive trips from Caroline Lau and Walsh, respectively, trimmed an early five-point Nebraska lead down to one, 8-7, with just over three minutes gone in the opening frame. Following a Lau layup that knotted the score up at 13-13, Nebraska rattled off 10 straight, a run capped by back-to-back threes from Alberte Rimdal, the second of which gave the Cornhuskers a 23-13 advantage. Grace Sullivan finished inside to get Northwestern back within single digits, 23-15, but Nebraska didn't let up, pushing the margin to 31-18 on a Britt Prince jumper at the horn.
Taylor Williams attacked inside on the Wildcats' opening possession of the second quarter to trim Nebraska's lead to 31-20. Lau countered a Jessica Petrie three with a triple of her own at the 7:56 mark, as the 'Cats pulled within 37-23. After seeing the visitors stretch the gap to 55-32, Walsh put up the half's final six points, a stretch highlighted by an old-fashioned three-point play, to cut the deficit to 55-38 at the intermission.
Following a third quarter in which it struggled to make a dent in the Nebraska lead, Northwestern looked to mount a charge in the final 10 minutes. Walsh converted off a Lau steal ahead of two Melannie Daley free throws that trimmed the Cornhuskers' lead down to 75-61 with 90 seconds gone. Nebraska answered, pushing its lead back above the 20-point mark, as Northwestern was unable to get back within striking distance for the remainder of the afternoon.
