Northwestern Dominates Canisius with a 23-3 Victory

2/9/2025 4:11:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Wildcats (2-0) showcased an absolutely dominant performance against Canisius (0-1), cruising to a 23-3 victory in a game that was never in doubt. The Lake Show wasted no time asserting their control, with Madison Taylor opening the scoring early with a free position goal to give NU a 1-0 lead. From there, the goals came fast and furious.

By halftime, the score was already 14-2 in favor of Northwestern. The Wildcats' offense was relentless, with Taylor leading the charge, netting a total of 5 goals while adding 3 assists and 2 draw controls. Her efforts were complemented by standout performances from Sam Smith, who added 3 goals, Riley Campbell and Lucy Munro, who each scored 2 goals with 2 assists.

While Canisius managed a few bright moments, including goals from Maddie Fitzgerald and Ashlyn Dhandwar on free position shots, they were unable to stop the offensive barrage from Northwestern. The Golden Griffins' defense struggled to contain the Wildcats, who constantly pushed the ball and capitalized on their opportunities.

Defensively, NU was stellar as well, with Cara Nugent recording several key saves. Additionally, turnovers were forced all over the field, with NU's defensive unit shutting down Canisius' clears and turnover attempts.

In the second half, Northwestern continued its dominance, with players like Jordan Miles and Hannah Rudolph adding goals to the tally. The Wildcats' balanced attack was too much for Canisius, as they scored 9 more goals after halftime, finishing with a resounding 23-3 win.

With the win, Northwestern continues to build momentum for the season, proving their depth and strength in all areas of the game.
