
Top-Two Rivalry Renewed: No. 2 Northwestern Faces No. 1 Boston College at Home

EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 2 ranked Northwestern Wildcats (2-0) will take on the No. 1 ranked Boston College Eagles (2-0) on Saturday, February 15 at noon CT at Ryan Fieldhouse in a rematch of the 2024 national championship. The game will mark the latest chapter in a growing rivalry between two of the nation's premier programs. Fans attending the game are encouraged to participate in the "White Out" and show their support for the Wildcats by wearing white.

Both teams enter the contest with undefeated records this season. Northwestern kicked off its 2025 campaign with two victories, a 13-10 win over preseason No. 13 Notre Dame and a 23-3 rout of Canisius. Junior Madison Taylor, the reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, led the Wildcats with 11 goals and 4 assists across the two games, including a standout six-goal performance against Notre Dame. Graduate transfer Riley Campbell also contributed heavily, tallying 7 points, 6 ground balls, and 4 caused turnovers.

On the draw control, senior Sam Smith leads the Wildcats with 12, while her younger sister, Madi Smith, has added 7. Defensively, senior Sammy White anchors the unit with 4 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers, supported by first-year Mary Carroll and graduate transfer Grace Fujinaga, who both started their first two matchups with Northwestern.
Boston College also arrives with a 2-0 record after two decisive wins, beating No. 8 Loyola Maryland 21-7 and Boston University 21-6. The Eagles' offense is powered by senior Rachel Clark, who leads the team with 12 goals, and senior Emma LoPinto, who has contributed 11 points with 7 goals and 4 assists. LoPinto was a member of the U.S. Women's U20 Team coached by Kelly Amonte Hiller, accompanied by many Wildcats, this past summer.

The Wildcats and Eagles have faced each other seven times in program history, with Northwestern holding a 4-3 edge in the all-time series. The rivalry has intensified over the past two years, with the teams meeting in back-to-back NCAA championship games. Northwestern claimed the 2023 title with an 18-6 win, while Boston College captured the 2024 championship with a 14-13 victory in a closely contested final.
