Three 'Cats Podium at Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Three Wildcats reached the podium at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday, highlighting the group of ten Northwestern wrestlers who competed in the weekend event. Eddie Enright finished fifth at 174 lbs, while Dedrick Navarro wrestled to a sixth-place finish at 125 lbs and Sean Spidle got eighth place at 133 lbs.
Northwestern wrestlers picked up eight victories over ranked opponents during the tournament, including one from Navarro on his run to the podium. After dropping a narrow 5-4 decision to Oregon State's No. 15 Maximo Renteria in the first round, Navarro ran off four straight victories in the consolation bracket to secure his podium position. He capped off his Friday with a statement win, defeating No. 19 Brady Roark (SDSU) by 17-5 major decision, before rolling to a 17-0 technical fall on Saturday morning. His sixth-place finish provided the first CKLV podium of his career.
Also on the podium for the first time was Enright, who made waves in his CKLV debut. The 174-pounder opened his tournament with a dominant major decision, defeating Leo Tukhlynovych (Arizona State) 11-1. That set the tone for the rest of his weekend, as he picked up three total bonus-point victories. Most notably, Enright defeated InterMat's No. 30 wrestler at 174 lbs, Wyoming's Riley Davis, by technical fall, 19-4.
Rounding out the group of podium finishers was Spidle at 133 lbs. Spidle picked up a pair of decisions on Friday morning to help himself to the quarterfinals, where he dropped a 9-3 decision to Luke Willochell (Wyoming). In the back half of the bracket, a clutch takedown in sudden victory provided Spidle his podium berth, as he defeated Carter Schmidt (Oklahoma) 4-1.
While he missed out on a podium place, first-year Billy Dekraker impressed at 141 lbs, picking up a pair of ranked victories in his first month of collegiate action. After winning a 5-1 decision against a conference foe in No. 19 Greyson Clark (Purdue), Dekraker added on a thrilling defeat of No. 15 Caedyn Ricciardi (Navy) in tiebreakers, using riding time to secure the win.
Jacob Bostelman also added a top-20 win to his resume. He defeated No. 17 Dylan Gilcher (Michigan) in tiebreakers, 2-1, for his second ranked victory of the season.
UP NEXT
The 'Cats return to dual action later this month, when they host the first home match of their season against Lock Haven. First whistle on Friday, Dec. 19, is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
