‘Cats, Revolutionaries set for 12 p.m. CT tip-off
EVANSTON, Ill. (December 20, 2025) – Northwestern (6-5, 0-1 B1G) closes out the non-conference portion of its 2025-26 schedule by visiting the nation's capital for a Sunday afternoon tilt against George Washington. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. CT inside the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, D.C.
Sunday's matchup will serve as a homecoming for Northwestern head coach Joe McKeown, who spent 19 seasons as head coach at George Washington, where he still ranks as the school's all-time winningest basketball coach with 441 victories. A five-time Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year, McKeown guided George Washington to 14 league titles and 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, none more impressive than a run to the NCAA Elite Eight in the 1996-97 season.
LAST TIME OUT
Tayla Thomas erupted for a career-high 30 points, leading a group of three Wildcats to score in double figures, as Loyola Chicago escaped Welsh-Ryan Arena with a 69-68 win over Northwestern this past Thursday.
In addition to her career-best scoring output, Thomas ripped down 11 rebounds en route to her fourth double-double of the season. She also recorded two blocks and a steal on the defensive end of the floor.
Caroline Lau flirted with her first career triple-double, closing her day with 12 points, nine assists, and a season-high eight rebounds in a 40-minute performance. For the second time in as many games, Tate Lash reached double figures in scoring, adding 10 points. Lash posted season-high marks in both steals (4) and blocks (3), while also dishing out five assists.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington (7-5, 1-0 A-10), which has been idle since a 70-44 rout of local rival American on December 14, rolls into Sunday's pre-holiday clash on a five-game win streak. Under the direction of first-year head coach Ganiyat Adeduntan, the Revolutionaries were predicted to finish 10th in the Atlantic 10 Conference Preseason Poll.
Preseason All-Atlantic 10 pick Gabby Reynolds has dazzled during the season's opening two months, averaging a team-best 15.0 points across 11 appearances. A member of the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, Reynolds pumped in a career-high 27 points in George Washington's clash with Miami (FL) on November 28.
The pairing of Sara Lewis and Kamari Sims has provided support on the offensive end, with each member of the duo averaging just north of nine points per game. Lewis poured in a career-best 22 points in the Revolutionaries' 73-69 win at Delaware on December 10, a matchup in which Sims drilled four threes as part of a 16-point effort.

George Washington's Cinderella run to the Elite Eight began with a 61-46 victory over Northwestern in the First Round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament in the only previous meeting between the two programs.
