Lau, Thomas put up 17 points to pace Northwestern
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 21, 2025) – Caroline Lau and Tayla Thomas finished with 17 points apiece, as host George Washington (8-5, 1-0 A-10) dealt Northwestern (6-6, 0-1 B1G) a 75-62 defeat in the Wildcats' non-conference finale this afternoon inside the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, D.C.
How It Happened
Fresh off a career outing earlier in the week, Thomas looked to pick up right where she left off, drilling a mid-range jumper 25 seconds in to put Northwestern on top, 2-0. Kat Righeimer drove inside and converted with just under two minutes remaining to trim George Washington's lead to 13-9 and snap a lengthy field goal drought for the visitors, as the Revolutionaries took a 16-10 lead into the second quarter.
Two Thomas buckets bookended a Lau make as part of a 6-0 spurt that saw 'Cats pull level at 18-18 at the 6:30 mark. George Washington countered with an 8-0 surge, opening up a 26-18 edge on a Gabby Reynolds score with 3:42 remaining in the half. Angelina Hodgens looked to send the 'Cats into halftime with momentum, as she finished with time expiring to trim the George Washington lead to eight, 32-24.
Lau rattled off five straight points early in the third frame, the last three of which came on a triple that pulled the 'Cats within four, 35-31, with 7:33 to go. The Revolutionaries would respond by stretching their lead to as many as 11, before a near half-court heave from Lau again cut the margin to eight, 52-44.
After seeing the George Washington lead balloon to 63-46 with 5:56 remaining in regulation, Northwestern looked to mount a late charge from distance. Hodgens, Righeimer, and Claire Keswick each connected from beyond the three-point arc over a 1:11 span, with Righeimer's trey clawing the 'Cats within 66-55. Another Keswick trey made it 67-60 with just over two minutes to go, but Northwestern would get no closer as George Washington extended its win streak to six games.
