EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern volleyball is set for the final week of the regular season, starting with Senior Night against No. 10 Wisconsin on Wednesday before concluding on Friday at Illinois. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on B1G+.
The Wildcats (16-14, 6-12 Big Ten) are coming off a split weekend on the road that saw them defeat Ohio State and fall to No. 11 Purdue. In the victory over the Buckeyes, three 'Cats reached double-digit kills; Rylen Reid, Bella Bullington and Campbell Paris all finished with a team-high 14 each to power the 'Cats to victory. Northwestern also got a boost from the service line, where Reid became the fourth Wildcat ever to record eight service aces in a single match.
Though the 'Cats fell to No. 11 Purdue, Paris and Reid once again reached double figures in kills. They were joined by Ayah Elnady, who led the team for the ninth time this season, with 14.
In addition to Reid, who now sits eighth in the conference in aces with 39, Elnady, Lauren Carter and Drew Wright have continued to impress from the service line as well. Carter has led the charge with 44 aces, making her the first Northwestern player to reach the 40-ace mark since 2007. As a group, Reid, Elnady, Carter and Wright are the first quartet of Wildcats to all eclipse 30 aces in the same season since 2002.
First up for the 'Cats this weekend, they'll be faced with their third AVCA top-ten foe of the season in No. 10 Wisconsin (22-4, 15-3 Big Ten). The Badgers have won seven straight matches entering the midweek contest, including sweeps of their last five opponents. Wisconsin is powered by an offense that ranks second in the country in hitting percentage, at .315. Carter Booth has led the charge for the Badgers, hitting .435 while also contributing 1.25 blocks per set.
Following the match against Wisconsin, Northwestern will head south for the regular-season finale against the rival Illini (13-14, 8-10 Big Ten). It will be the second match between the two teams this season after Illinois swept the match in Evanston on October 19. Since their first meeting with the 'Cats, the Illini have gone 1-9, with their sole victory coming against Washington on November 14.
Following Wednesday's match, Northwestern will celebrate nine seniors and graduate students in a post-match ceremony.
