Foilists Lead No. 5 Northwestern To Six Wins At Western Invitational

โCats knock off No. 9 Stanford in event finale, 14-13
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (November 24, 2025) โ Led by an impressive showing from its foil squad, No. 5 Northwestern fencing finished with a 6-1 overall mark at the Western Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., over the weekend.

After dropping their event opener to No. 2 Columbia on Saturday morning, the 'Cats got in the win column with a 17-10 triumph over Tufts, a victory that included a dominant 8-1 effort by the Wildcat foilists.

Northwestern went on to add emphatic wins to close out the first day of competition, cruising past Brandeis, 21-6, and Incarnate Word, 26-1, both wins in which the 'Cats swept all three weapons.

The Wildcats carried momentum into Sunday's slate, going a perfect 3-0.ย Northwestern kickstarted the day by dispatching UC San Diego, 18-9, and event host Air Force, 19-8, again winning all three weapons in the latter matchup with the Falcons.

Northwestern closed its stay out west in style, rallying for a scintillating 14-13 win over No. 9 Stanford, an effort led by victories in both epee, 6-3, and foil, 5-4.

Making her dual meet debut for the 2025-26 season, Daphne Chan Nok Sze, who earned All-American honors as a first-year, led an outstanding showing by Northwestern's foil squad, finishing with a team-best 10 wins. ย Karina Vasile added eight wins of her own in the weapon.ย

Northwestern's epeeists, which went 5-2 across the Wildcats' seven matchups, were led by Christina Liu, who piled up 10 wins of her own, while Megumi Oishi paced the attack for the sabre squad with 12 victories, a mark that led Northwestern for the weekend.
