LINCOLN, Neb. - Northwestern volleyball (13-7, 3-5 Big Ten) will hit the road this weekend for a pair of match-ups against No. 1 Nebraska and No. 23 Indiana. The 'Cats will face the top-ranked Cornhuskers on Friday at 6 p.m. CT, then take on the Hoosiers on Sunday at noon CT. Both matches will be streamed on B1G+.
The 'Cats are coming off a two-game homestand that was highlighted by a gritty five-set win against Michigan. Buze Hazan came alive against the Wolverines, finishing with a team-high 17 kills to go along with a career-high six blocks in her first game action in more than a month. She followed that up with another 10 kills in a loss to Illinois. Ayah Elnady continued to hold steady for the Wildcats as well, racking up 12 kills to go along with nine digs against Illinois on Sunday, good for her fifth straight match with double-digit kills.
On the defensive end, both of Northwestern's liberos submitted solid performances. Lauren Dignan finished with a team-high 13 digs against Michigan, her fourth double-digit performance against a Big Ten opponent, while Drew Wright racked up a season-high nine digs to tie for the team-high against Illinois. In the front row, first-year Kayla Kauffman recorded seven blocks for the fourth time this season against Michigan, leading Northwestern in that category.
The Wildcats will begin their trip this weekend by taking on No. 1 Nebraska on Friday night. The Cornhuskers enter the match-up with a perfect 16-0 overall record, including an 8-0 Big Ten record. Nebraska has yet to lose a set in conference play and currently leads the nation in hitting percentage with a blistering .332 on the year so far. The Huskers have dominated the all-time series, leading 21-1, and Northwestern will be in search of its first-ever road victory over Nebraska.
On Sunday afternoon, Northwestern will take on Indiana (15-3, 6-2 Big Ten) in the teams' second of two meetings this season. In the conference opener at Welsh-Ryan Arena on September 24, the Hoosiers were able to secure the 3-1 victory. The Wildcats will look to even up the season series at 1-1, but will have to get through a tough Hoosier offense. Indiana is currently ranked eighth in the nation in hitting percentage (.292).
Following the trip, Northwestern will continue Big Ten play at home next week with two key contests against Iowa and Maryland. The 'Cats will host the Hawkeyes for a Halloween matchup at 7 p.m. CT, and then face the Terrapins November 2 at 2 p.m. CT. All action will be streamed on B1G+.
