EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern sophomore Diego Nosack (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit High School) has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week following his performance at Wisconsin this past weekend.
Nosack recorded two first-place finishes in two very different events: The 200 fly (1:43.75) and the 500 freestyle (4:22.62). Both times are in-season bests for Nosack. In the 200 fly, Nosack won an exciting race, out-touching his Badger opponent by 0.05 seconds.
"Diego showcases what this team is all about," said director of swimming and diving Rachel Stratton-Mills. "His swims this weekend demonstrated a lot of heart and passion for his teammates and for what this program is trying to achieve."
The men's swimming team won eight of their races in Madison and earned a 163.5-136.5 victory. The team defeated Wisconsin head-to-head for the first time in more than 11 years (November 15, 2013). NU has started the season 6-0 (2-0 in dual meets vs. Big Ten opponents).
The 'Cats will compete in their final competition before the Big Tens – a triple dual with Minnesota and Purdue in Minneapolis – on January 31-February 1. The Big Ten Championships take place February 19-22 in Columbus, OH.
