Wildcats Fall to Long Beach State in Four

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Northwestern volleyball fell Thursday in the first of two against Long Beach State the weekend. The 'Cats lost a four-set match (23-25, 29-27, 17-25, 15-25) on the road at the Walter Pyramid.
The non-conference loss moved Northwestern to 0-3 on the season.
For the third straight match, Buse Hazan led the Wildcat attack. She finished with 10 kills on the day. Northwestern got 10 digs from Alexa Rousseau and seven blocks from Kennedy Hill to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Wildcats found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a hard-fought first set 25-23. Long Beach State grabbed the advantage for good at 24-23 in a set that was tied up nine times before the Beach took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Northwestern evened the match at 1-1 after a 29-27 victory in set two. The Wildcats survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied 16 times. Neither team led by more than three points along the way. Northwestern's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Long Beach State attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Long Beach State went up 2-1 after defeating the Wildcats in set three. The Wildcats lost a tough set 25-17. Northwestern trailed by as many as eight points as Long Beach State grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was knotted up nine times before the Beach took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Northwestern then lost the fourth set 25-15 to finish off the match. The Wildcats fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before falling in the set.
