Wildcats Drop Big Ten Opener to Boilermakers

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern dropped its conference lidlifter 2-0 against Purdue on Thursday evening at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium,
The setback was NU's (5-3-0, 0-1-0 Big Ten) first at home this season. The Wildcats outshot the Boilers 20-7 and earned 12 corners compared to just two for PU.
How it Happened
Purdue's Lauren Omholt pounced on an errant back pass in the game's seventh minute, chipping Wildcat keeper Reiley Fitzpatrick for the game's opening goal. The 'Cats outshot Purdue 9-3 in the game's first half, but were unable to equalize.
Northwestern continued to control the run of play, outshooting the Boilermakers 11-4 in the second half. Leading 1-0 in the 86th minute, the Boilermaker defense cleared a corner kick to Kayla Budish, who sprung a quick counterattack and tiptoed around Fitzpatrick to double their lead.
