Sara Griffith, a 6-1 middle blocker from Chicago, joins Northwestern after a solid tenure at DePaul University. Griffith appeared in 63 sets over 19 matches during her junior and senior years with the Blue Demons, contributing 48 kills and 54 blocks. Her presence will add depth to the Wildcats' front line and bring valuable collegiate experience. Prior to DePaul, Griffith began her career at South Florida, where she showed promise as a freshman. A product of Jones College Prep and the Adversity Volleyball Club, Griffith has a strong foundation in the game and is poised to make an impact in her final season of collegiate play.
Rachel Johnson, a 6-foot-0 outside hitter from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, brings her attacking expertise to Northwestern after a standout career at Holy Cross. Johnson led the Crusaders in several offensive categories during her sophomore year, including kills and points per set. Over her two seasons at Holy Cross, Johnson amassed 440 kills, 59 service aces, and 414 digs. Known for her infectious passion and six-rotation versatility, Johnson was a key player in the Patriot League and earned Academic All-District honors. Her competitive spirit and ability to perform under pressure will be invaluable to the Wildcats.
Buse Hazan, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Istanbul, Turkey, joins the Wildcats after a remarkable sophomore season at South Florida. Hazan was named a First Team All-AAC selection, leading her team in kills and service aces while ranking among the conference's top performers. Her powerful arm and scoring ability helped the Bulls to a 22-12 overall record and a semifinal appearance in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. Hazan's international experience and proven track record of success make her a great addition to the Northwestern roster.
Lily Wagner, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Germantown, Wisconsin, comes to Northwestern with three seasons of eligibility remaining after spending her freshman year at Liberty University. Wagner showed glimpses of her potential with 40 kills, 11 blocks, and 119 digs across 18 matches. A two-time All-State selection in high school, Wagner was ranked as one of the top recruits in Wisconsin and has deep volleyball roots, with her mother being a former All-American at Wisconsin. Wagner's strong serve and pass game, combined with her competitive background, will bolster the Wildcats' depth and versatility.
Sophia Summers, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker from Portland, Oregon, arrives at Northwestern with a wealth of experience from the University of Washington, where she was part of four NCAA Tournament teams. Summers was a key contributor during her senior season, leading the Huskies in blocks and ranking second in attack percentage. Her consistent performance and ability to excel on both sides of the net make her a valuable asset for the Wildcats. Summers' elite experience, including a Final Four appearance, and her leadership on and off the court will be crucial as Northwestern aims for success this season.
These five transfers are set to bring a blend of experience, talent, and leadership to Northwestern Volleyball. Fans can look forward to seeing them in action as the Wildcats kick off their season at the UNLV Tournament on August 30.
