Middle blocker appeared in 63 sets during time at DePaul

EVANSTON, Ill. - Head coach Tim Nollan and Northwestern volleyball announced the addition of Sara Griffith (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep/DePaul) to their fall roster on Thursday. A 6-1 middle blocker, Griffith will join the 'Cats for her final season of collegiate play.

"We're excited to add Sara to our squad," Nollan said, "She's a Chicago native and will give us some depth at middle blocker as well as valuable collegiate experience. We can't wait to start practice with Sara and the team!"

Griffith comes to Evanston from nearby DePaul, where she spent the last two years. She appeared in 63 sets over 19 matches across her junior and senior seasons there. Her Blue Demon tenure included 48 total kills and 54 blocks, including ten matches with three or more kills and nine matches with three or more blocks. She also impressed in the classroom, earning Big East All-Academic honors in 2023.

Prior to her time in Lincoln Park, Griffith began her college career at South Florida. During her freshman campaign in 2020, she appeared in 33 sets over nine matches, including five starts. She recorded two digs, 18 kills and 17 blocks in that time. Her year was highlighted by a season-high five kills in her collegiate debut against FGCU.

Griffith, a Chicago native, graduated from Jones College Prep. Her high school career also included club play with Chicagoland's Adversity Volleyball Club and time in USA Volleyball's A1 training program. Before transferring to Jones, Griffith led St. Ignatius College Prep in solo blocks and departed ranked second in program history for single-match block assists.

Griffith will join fellow transfers Buse Hazan, Rachel Johnson, Sophia Summers and Lily Wagner as well as incoming first years Cleo Hardin and Ava Pratt as newcomers to Nollan's roster. The 'Cats officially open the 2024 season at the UNLV Tournament, August 30-31, with matchups against the host Rebels and Pacific, respectively. Northwestern raises the curtain on its home schedule on September 12, entertaining Notre Dame inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
