'Cats Travel to Charlottesville for Contest with Cavaliers

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern women's soccer closes out the opening weekend of the season with a trip to Charlottesville to take on RV Virginia on Sunday, August 18. Kickoff from Klöckner Stadium is set for 12 p.m. CT on ACCNX.
Last Time Out
On Thursday, Northwestern used a hot start to down Boston University 3-2 for its third-consecutive season-opening victory. The Wildcats struck first on a Megan Norkett goal in the sixth minute to take a 1-0 lead. NU doubled its lead in the 30th minute on a goal by Caterina Regazzoni, assisted by Kennedy Roesch, and extended its lead further in the 33rd minute on Kennedy Roesch's first career goal. BU scored in the 50th minute and 77th minute to trim the lead to one, but was unable to find the equalizer. Roesch tallied a goal and an assist in her collegiate debut, becoming the first Wildcat first-year to do so. Roesch is the first Wildcat to score in their collegiate debut since Caterina Regazzoni did so in a 2-1 win at Kansas State on August 18, 2022.

Virginia opened its 2024 campaign with a 2-0 triumph over Towson on Thursday. Laughlin Ryan and Maggie Cagle tallied goals for the Cavaliers, who outshot the Tigers 24-3 en route to the victory. UVA received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, and was tabbed to finish sixth in the ACC in the league's preseason coaches poll.
