Istanbul, Turkey native was a First Team All-AAC selection at South Florida
EVANSTON, Ill. (June 10, 2024) – Northwestern University head volleyball coach Tim Nollan continued to bolster his roster on Monday with the announcement that Buse Hazan (Istanbul, Turkey/Atacan Egitim Kurumlari/South Florida) will join the Wildcats' program. Hazan makes her way north after spending the past two seasons at the University of South Florida, where she was named a First Team All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) honoree.
"I am very excited to add Buse to our 2024 roster," Nollan said. "Buse is a proven scorer who will come in and add another great arm to our team. She is a fighter and a winner. Buse will be a terrific fit for our team and our volleyball family."
After missing the majority of her freshman campaign due to injury in 2022, Hazan enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, piling up 467 kills (3.80 k/s) and 46 service aces (0.37 sa/s), both team-high marks, in addition to 267 digs (2.17 d/s). In recognition of her efforts, the 5-foot-11 outside hitter was named a First Team All-AAC selection. She was the only player in the conference to close the season ranked in the top five in points (2nd; 4.36 p/s), kills (2nd), and service aces (5th).
Hazan was one of the AAC's most prolific performers in 2023, reaching double figures in kills on 25 occasions. She tallied 20-plus kills in four matches, none more impressive than a 27-kill effort in a matchup with North Texas on October 20. The Istanbul, Turkey native also put up 20 kills in an early-season showdown with No. 11 Florida (Aug. 27). She was tabbed the AAC Offensive Player of the Week on October 2 after averaging 5.50 kills per set while hitting .393 in back-to-back sweeps of UAB (Sept. 29-30).
Led by Hazan, South Florida closed the 2023 season at 22-12 overall, a mark that included a 13-6 ledger in league play that saw the Bulls win the AAC's East Division Title. South Florida went on to earn a bid in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), where it tallied three wins en route to advancing on to the event's semifinal round.
