Wildcats Eye B1G Lacrosse Championship, Redemption Against Penn State

Evanston, Ill. - The Lake Show is poised to make their sixth appearance in the B1G championship. The stage is set at a sold out Martin Stadium for a showdown against the Penn State Nittany Lions at 4:30 p.m. CT, broadcast live on the Big Ten Network with Dean Linke and Cayley Chelios on the call.

Seeking vengeance after a heartbreaking overtime loss earlier this season in State College, the Wildcats are hungry for redemption against Penn State. In their previous clash, Izzy Scane netted 5 goals, complemented by Maddy Taylor's 2 goals and 2 assists, alongside Erin Coykendall's 2 goals and 1 assist. Scane and Coykendall orchestrated a thrilling comeback, knotting the score 13-13 with just over a minute left in regulation, only for Penn State's O'Neill to seal the win in overtime at 1:17.

Despite outshooting their opponents 36-28 and dominating the draw controls 20-10, the 'Cats came up short in their previous meeting with the Nittany Lions.

Fresh off a triumph over #12 Johns Hopkins, Northwestern aims to extend their home-win streak to an impressive 43 games. Dylan Amonte set the tone with a first-quarter hat trick, while Maddy Taylor tallied 6 points from 5 goals and 1 assist. Senior Defender Kendall Halpern was stellar, causing a career-high five turnovers.

A victory in Saturday's championship would mark Northwestern's third sweep of both the regular season and B1G conference tournament titles (2021, 2023). The 'Cats go into the matchup with  a 3-2 record in the title game, boasting victories in 2019, 2021, and 2023—all against the Maryland Terrapins.

Following the championship game, the Wildcats will await the 2024 Division I Women's Lacrosse Championships selection show. Join the 'Cats live as they find out their seed for the NCAA tournament on Sunday, May 5th, airing on ESPN2 at 8:00 p.m. CT.
