COLUMBUS, Ohio - Northwestern men's tennis returns to action this weekend as they open Big Ten play on the road at Ohio State and Penn State. The Wildcats will visit Columbus on Friday, with first serve against the Buckeyes scheduled for 5 p.m. CT, then University Park on Sunday, with first serve at 10 a.m. CT.
Northwestern wrapped up non-conference play on March 8 at Notre Dame, where they fell 4-0 to the Fighting Irish. The 'Cats went 5-11 overall during the first portion of dual season and currently sit at No. 60 in the ITA's latest team rankings.
First up on their conference slate, the 'Cats will match up with the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday. The Buckeyes boast five of the top 100 singles players as ranked by the ITA, including four in the top 25. They've also fared well in doubles play and will enter the weekend with three ranked doubles duos, headlined by Robert Cash and JJ Tracy at No. 5 overall.
Next up for the 'Cats will be 4-11 Penn State. The Nittany Lions have lost eight straight heading into conference play, which they will open on Friday against Illinois. Last time Northwestern met Penn State, the 'Cats came away with a 4-0 sweep.
Following this road trip, men's tennis will return home to host Michigan, Michigan State and Chicago State next weekend in Evanston. Friday's match against the Wolverines is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, while Sunday's matches are scheduled for noon and 5:30 p.m.
