Northwestern To Face Florida Atlantic in NCAA Tournament First Round

EVANSTON, Ill. – Making back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in program history, ninth-seeded Northwestern men's basketball (21-11, 12-8 B1G) will meet eighth-seeded Florida Atlantic in an NCAA Tournament First Round game on Friday, March 22 in Brooklyn, New York. The Wildcats are seeded ninth in the East Region. The winner of Friday's matchup will battle the winner of the First Round game between No. 1 UConn and No. 16 Stetson. Northwestern is appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history and holds a 2-2 all-time record in NCAA action. The Wildcats and Owls are meeting for the second time in program history, with NU winning the first matchup 69-59 on Nov. 21, 2005.
 
Piloted by Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins, Northwestern enters the NCAA Tournament at 21-11 overall, having posted back-to-back 21-win campaigns for the first time in program history. The 'Cats finished tied for third in the Big Ten, going 12-8 in league play to match the program record for most conference wins in a season.
 
In recognition of their efforts during the regular season, the pairing of Boo Buie and Brooks Barnhizer were honored as All-Big Ten selections. The first Wildcat to earn unanimous First Team All-Big Ten distinction, Buie closed the regular season as the only player in the league to rank in the top five in both scoring (18.9 ppg) and assists (5.2 apg).  In his first season as a starter in the Northwestern lineup, Barnhizer put up 14.6 points and a team-best 7.3 rebounds per game en route to being named a Third Team All-Big Ten pick by the conference coaches and an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection by the conference media.  Barnhizer was also tabbed to the league's All-Defensive Team.
