Buie Scores 29, 'Cats Fall 70-61 to Wisconsin in Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinal

MINNEAPOLIS – Boo Buie scored 29 points and Brooks Barnhizer recorded his ninth double-double of the season as the Wildcats fell 70-61 to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinal at Target Center.

Boo Buie posted 29 points on 9-for-15 shooting and 7-for-11 shooting from three-point range. Buie's seven three point field goals made match a career-high and are the most by a Wildcat in Big Ten Tournament play. Buie's 29 points are the most by a Northwestern player in the Big Ten Tournament since Michael "Juice" Thompson scored 35 on March 10, 2011, setting the Big Ten Tournament single-game record for points.

Brooks Barnhizer posted 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Lafayette, Ind. native's 14 rebounds match a career high. Barnhizer shot 87.5% (7-for-8) from the charity stripe.

How It Happened

Northwestern went on a 14-2 run, spanning two minutes and three seconds in the first half to take a 21-10 lead. During that stretch, Boo Buie tallied 11 of the Wildcats' 14 points. Buie scored 16 of Northwestern's first 21 points over a four minute and thirty-seven second stretch. Wisconsin took a 33-29 advantage into the break.

In the early stages of the second half, Northwestern went on a 7-0 run to even the score at 38 all with 16:16 to go in the contest. Wisconsin responded with a 5-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way, claiming a 70-61 win to advance to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals.
