COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Nick Martinelli posted a career-high 27 points on 9-for-14 shooting to lead Northwestern over Maryland, 68-61, earning its first season sweep of the Terrapins since Maryland joined the Big Ten in 2012 on Wednesday night inside XFINITY Center. The Wildcats improved to 20-8 overall and 11-6 in the Big Ten Conference, reaching the 20-win mark for the second straight season and sixth time in program history.

Brooks Barnhizer added his seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, moving him into a tie for second place on Northwestern's single-season double-double leaderboard (since 2010-11). Barnhizer is tied with Alex Olah (7, 2014-15) and one behind Dererk Pardon (8, 2018-19).

The Wildcats earned the win on the defensive end of the floor, holding Maryland to just 39% from the field and 9% from three-point range (2-for-22). NU improves to 11-1 this season when holding its opponents to 65 points or fewer this season.

The 'Cats have secured a league record above .500 for the third time since 1968-69.
