Ashley Miller Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. – Following a dominant showing at the Mary Nutter Classic this past weekend, Northwestern Softball's Ashley Miller was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week.
Miller appeared in all four games for Northwestern at the Mary Nutter Classic, making two starts, and allowed just one run in 17.0 innings pitched (0.41 ERA) while holding opposing batters to just a .143 batting average.

This marks the second time Miller has taken home Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, having also won the award on Feb. 14, 2022 when pitching for Michigan State during her sophomore campaign. Miller is the first NU pitcher to win Big Ten Pitcher of the Week since Lauren Boyd (March 28, 2023) and Danielle Williams (March 21, 2023) did so in back to back weeks last season.
Miller opened the weekend surrendered just four hits and one run while striking out six in a narrow 1-0 loss to No. 19 UCLA on Friday.
On Saturday, Miller appeared in both of the Wildcats' games. She allowed just one hit in 3.1 innings and struck out three vs. LMU, before picking up her third save of the season in a 9-8 win over San Diego in the back half of the doubleheader.
The Leo, Indiana native turned in a gem of a performance in the 'Cats' weekend finale, tossing a one-hit shutout against Oregon State, striking out nine en route to her second complete game shutout of the season. Miller carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning against the Beavers before allowing a leadoff double, and ultimately retired 21 of the 23 batters she faced.
With a 0.89 ERA (4 ER/31.1 IP), Miller currently ranks fourth in the Big Ten and Top-50 in the nation in ERA. She also ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 38 strikeouts, and third among all conference pitchers with a 8.5 strikeouts/seven innings ratio.
Northwestern went 2-2 on the weekend at the Mary Nutter Classic, finishing with two straight wins over San Diego and Oregon State to improve to 7-4 on the year. The Wildcats will be back in action this weekend with five games at the Jane B. Moore Memorial Tournament, hosted by Auburn.
