Wildcats pick up four wins to close dual slate
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (February 13, 2024) – No. 8 Northwestern fencing wrapped up the regular season portion of its dual slate by securing four victories this past Saturday at the Tar Heel Duals in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Wildcats are one of the hottest teams in the nation as postseason competition nears, having won 20 of their last 21 head-to-head duals.
As was the case at the Northwestern Duals, the 'Cats opened competition by downing No. 9 Temple, with a 7-2 win by the epee squad highlighting wins across all three weapons in an 18-9 victory. Northwestern matched that feat against No. 15 NYU, against completing a clean sweep as part of another 18-9 triumph.
The epee and sabre teams both came out on top as part of a 16-11 win over Boston College. Following a narrow 14-13 setback to host North Carolina, the 'Cats closed out their stay at the Eddie Smith Field House in style, storming to a 23-4 rout of LIU that featured a spotless 9-0 showing in the sabre.
Levi Hoogendoorn led the way for Northwestern on the individual front, putting up a perfect 9-0 record in the sabre. Yejine Lee paced the Wildcats' foilists with eight victories, while Anna Damratoski and Karen Wang came away with seven wins apiece in the epee.
