Wrestling Resumes Dual Action at Cal Poly

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Northwestern wrestling takes to the West Coast this week as they prepare for their third and final non-conference dual meet this season. The 'Cats (1-1) will face off with Cal Poly (0-2) on Thursday evening in San Luis Obispo, with action from the Mott Athletics Center scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. CT on FloWrestling.
LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern last competed two weekends ago at the prestigious CKLV Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. Nine 'Cats saw action at the event, which was highlighted by a ranked victory and a runner-up finish at 197 lbs for Evan Bates. Following his success at the event, Bates rocketed up to No. 13 in the latest InterMat rankings.
Dedrick Navarro (125 lbs), Sam Cartella (149 lbs), Maxx Mayfield (165 lbs) and Jon Halvorsen (184 lbs) also picked up a pair of victories each in Las Vegas.
SCOUTING CAL POLY
Though Cal Poly has fallen in both of their dual meets so far this season, they entered the week ranked No. 20 in InterMat's tournament rankings after impressing in tournament action so far this winter. Most recently, No. 3 Zeth Romney captured the CKLV Invitational title at 133 lbs for the Mustangs, who placed 13th in the event as a team.
Heading into action Thursday, InterMat ranked six Mustangs in the Top 33 at their weight classes: No. 3 Romney (133 lbs), No. 7 Chance Lamer (149 lbs), No. 33 Luka Wick (165 lbs), No. 28 Adam Kemp (174 lbs), No. 33 Daschle Lamer (184 lbs) and No. 30 Trevor Tinker (285 lbs).
SERIES HISTORY
The 'Cats are 4-0 against Cal Poly in dual meet action since 2014, with three of four victories coming on the road. The last meeting between the two teams was in 2018 - a meet Northwestern won 32-16.
