Rousseau Registers Triple-Double in Wildcats' 3-1 Loss to Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Alexa Rousseau put up her second triple-double of the season with 15 kills, 10 digs, and 16 assists, but the Northwestern volleyball team fell to the Michigan State Spartans 3-1 (16-25, 22-25, 31-29, 12-25) Wednesday on the road at Breslin Events Center.

The loss dropped Northwestern's record to 5-22 overall and 3-16 in Big Ten play.

In addition to Rousseau's stand-out evening, Rylen Reid also added 10 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Drew Wright chipped in with 19 digs to go with nine blocks from Sophia Summers.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Wildcats found themselves at an early deficit, dropping a tough first set 25-16. Northwestern trailed by as many as nine points as Michigan State grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Spartans took control.

SET 2 | Northwestern dropped the second set 25-22, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. Michigan State grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was tied up four times before the Spartans took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Northwestern fought back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in a drawn-out third stanza. The Wildcats came out on top of a tight battle, winning 31-29 in a set that was tied 13 times and had seven lead changes. The Wildcats racked up 19 kills over the course of the set while the defense blocked six Michigan State attacks in the stanza.

SET 4 | Northwestern couldn't build off the set-three victory and fell in the fourth set 25-12 to drop the match. The Wildcats lost the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set.

Game Notes

» Alexa Rousseau's triple-double was her second of the season and the fourth of her career. She is the first Big Ten player to record multiple triple-doubles in 2024.
» Rylen Reid had a team-high three aces in the loss, her fourth multi-ace match of the season.
» Sophia Summers matched her career high, first set on Oct. 6 at Illinois, with nine blocks
» Alexa Rousseau led the Wildcat offense for the ninth time this season with 15 kills for Northwestern.
» Northwestern got a team-high 19 digs from Drew Wright, putting her one off her career high.
» Northwestern attackers were helped by a team-high 16 assists from Alexa Rousseau. Sienna Noordermeer also chipped in a season-high 15.

How It Happened

The 'Cats will close out the season on Friday at Michigan, where they'll take on the Wolverines at 6 p.m. CT.
