'Cats Open Dual Season at Home Against NIU

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern wrestling opens their dual season at home this Saturday evening when it hosts Northern Illinois in Evanston. The Wildcats and Huskies are set to clash at 7 p.m. inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ILLINOIS
In his 14th season with the Huskies, Head Coach Ryan Ludwig welcomes 16 new student-athletes to the program, with five transfers and 11 true freshmen making up the group. Coach Ludwig's group this year is highlighted by two ranked wrestlers in Blake West and Jacobi Jackson.
Like the 'Cats, Northern Illinois began their season at the Michigan State Open last Saturday. The Huskies had nine wrestlers place fifth or better at the event. West, ranked by InterMat as the No. 18 wrestler at 125 lbs, claimed a second-place finish in the Open Division.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's matchup will be the 39th time Northwestern and Northern Illinois face off in wrestling - a series in which the 'Cats own a 25-11-2 (.684) advantage. Northwestern looks to extend its lead in the all-time series after losing 18-17 to the Huskies in their most recent meeting last December.
