‘Cats fall in championship match to Arizona, 4.5-1.5
ST ANDREWS, Scotland (October 16, 2024) – The Northwestern University women's golf team wrapped up a memorable stay in St Andrews, Scotland today by finishing second overall at the St Andrews Links Collegiate. The Wildcats fell to Arizona by a final margin of 4.5-1.5 in the event's championship match.
Competing at the historic Old Course (par 72; 6,204 yards), the 'Cats were led on the day by under-par showings from Ashley Yun, Lauryn Nguyen, and Jiayi Wang.
Fresh off securing her first collegiate victory during the stroke play portion of the event earlier in the week, Yun paced the Wildcats, firing a two-under-par 70. Yun, who fell to Charlotte Back, piled up five birdies, three of which came on the front nine, en route to her fourth round at par-or-better this season.
Nguyen and Wang both turned in one-under-par rounds of 71 as they halved their respective matchups against Julia Misemer and Caroline Melgrati. Nguyen started fast, putting up three birdies across her first seven holes as part of a three-under front nine, while Wang closed her first nine holes at two-under-par.
Elise Lee also put a half point on the board for Northwestern, finishing all square in her clash with Maria Cabanillas. Lee picked up a pair of birdies on the front nine on the way to a one-over 73.
Hsin Tai Lin racked up four birdies across her first nine holes on the way to a two-over 74 that saw her edged by Lilas Pinthier. Dianna Lee also got off to a quick start, birdying three of her first five holes of the day as she finished with a 78 in her matchup with Nena Wongthanavimok.
