Six Wildcats Score in Double Figures as Northwestern Routs Ohio State, 83-58

EVANSTON, Ill. – Six Wildcats scored in double figures as Northwestern routed Ohio State 83-58 on Saturday night inside Welsh-Ryan Arena to move to improve to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in Big Ten play.

Northwestern's 25-point margin of victory marked its second-largest ever in 173 games against the Buckeyes (78-47 win on February 13, 1997). The Wildcats improve to 5-0 in Big Ten home games this season, its best start at home in conference play since the 1967-68 team went 7-0.

Boo Buie led all scorers with 19 points, Ryan Langborg added 14, Nick Martinelli chipped in 12, Brooks Barnhizer posted 11, Luke Hunger scored a career-high 11 and Ty Berry added 10. Buie also surpassed Billy McKinney for third all-time in career scoring with 1,911 points. 

The Wildcat defense stymied OSU all night, holding the Buckeyes to just 14 field goals made, the Buckeyes lowest since Feb. 11, 2012 against Michigan State.

How It Happened
After jumping out to a 13-12 advantage, Northwestern went on a 7-0 run with 12:12 left in the first half, extending its lead to eight points. Ryan Langborg led all scorers with 14 points in the first half as NU led 41-30 at the break.

Early in the second half, Northwestern exploded for an 11-0 run, finished off by Barnhizer's layup, to grow the lead to 66-39 with 10:12 to go in the contest to put the game on ice. Northwestern cruised the rest of the way for the 83-58 win. Ohio State was held without a field goal for the first 5:26 of the second half and for an additional stretch of 6:53 midway through the second half, during which Northwestern went on a 20-3 run.
