Northwestern Drops Road Matchup 95-55 to Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Northwestern women's basketball team out-rebounded the Penn State Lady Lions 39-34, but fell 95-55 on the road Tuesday.

The Wildcats (6-8, 1-2) were once again led by Caileigh Walsh, who had 16 points, and Melannie Daley, with 12 points. Casey Harter fell just shy of her first career double-double with nine points, a career-high nine rebounds and four assists.

Northwestern continued to share the ball well in Tuesday's game, racking up 15 assists on 23 made field goals. Individually, Caroline Lau dished out the most for the Wildcats with seven assists.

Northwestern did a great job disrupting Penn State shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Walsh's two rejections led the way individually for the Wildcats.

How It Happened

Northwestern matched the Lady Lions out of the game and reached the midway point of the first quarter up 11-9. Penn State finished the first ten minutes hot, however, and the 'Cats fell behind 24-11 by the end of the first quarter.

The Wildcats continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 49-29 halftime deficit.

Northwestern's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Wildcats faced a 74-41 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Northwestern played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.

Northwestern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 95-55.
