Northwestern Falls 90-60 to Ohio State

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern shot 53.3 percent from beyond the arc, but fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes 90-60 at home Friday.

The Wildcats (6-9, 1-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Caileigh Walsh, who had 14 points and three blocks. Paige Mott added 10 points and six rebounds and Caroline Lau added nine points and four assists.

The Northwestern offense was impressive from deep, knocking down eight threes on 15 attempts. Lau hit three treys for the Wildcats in the contest.

How It Happened

After falling behind 8-0, Northwestern went on a 6-0 run with 5:34 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Walsh, to narrow its deficit to 8-6. The Wildcats continued to close the gap, cutting the Ohio State lead to 20-19 by the end of the first period.

The Wildcats started to lose ground in the second quarter, however, and faced a 42-28 halftime deficit.

Northwestern's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Wildcats faced a 62-41 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Northwestern played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.

Ohio State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 80-51 advantage before Northwestern went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Alana Goodchild's three, to shrink the deficit to 80-58 with 2:38 to go in the contest. Ohio State responded and outscored the Wildcats the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 90-60. Northwestern got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 13 of its 19 total points.
