EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 2 Northwestern looks to extend its winning streak to three as it continues its east coast road trip at Vermont on Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats will take on the Catamounts at 3 p.m. CT at Moulton Winder Field, with action to be broadcast on AmericaEast.TV.

Storylines

Northwestern went 2-0 against a pair of ranked teams over the weekend at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in College Park, Maryland. They opened action on Friday with a 1-0 overtime victory against No. 17 Boston College, then kept the momentum rolling with a 3-2 comeback win over No. 20 Duke on Sunday morning.
The Wildcats took cues from their captains this weekend, with three of the four playing key roles in the pair of victories. Graduate student Peyton Halsey proved the difference on Friday, scoring the only goal of the game to take down No. 17 Boston College in overtime. After the 'Cats had fallen behind early against Duke, senior Alia Marshall scored the equalizer in the second quarter, knotting the game at two apiece. Coming off a five-shutout season in 2022, goalkeeper Annabel Skubisz notched her first shutout of the season on Friday, holding the Eagles scoreless through overtime. The senior collected 11 saves between the two games.
First year Olivia Bent-Cole scored her first collegiate goal on Sunday. She broke through for the 'Cats just before the end of the first quarter - the first of Northwestern's three eventual goals.
Head coach Tracey Fuchs announced the addition of Tristan Clemons to the coaching staff last week. Clemons, who is now an assistant coach for the 'Cats, served as a volunteer assistant on Fuchs' staff for three seasons, most recently during the 2021 spring season. Clemons, a successful goaltender for the Australian Men's Hockey Team, will work with Northwestern's goalkeepers this season.
The 'Cats had three student-athletes named to the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list on Wednesday: fifth-year Peyton Halsey and seniors Annabel Skubisz and Lauren Wadas. Both Skubisz and Wadas were named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2022, while Halsey was named to the NFHCA All-West Second Team.

Matchup Information

Tuesday's game will be the second all-time between Northwestern and Vermont and their first meeting since 1982. Northwestern claimed a 3-2 victory last time they faced Vermont.
The 'Cats' previous matchup with the Catamounts was a neutral site game, making this their first-ever visit to Moulton Winder Field.
Northwestern last faced off with an America East team in 2013, when they beat UMass Lowell 3-0. Tuesday's game is the first of two scheduled matchups against the conference this season for the 'Cats, who will take on Maine later this week.
