ROSEMONT, Ill. – Caterina Regazzoni has been named as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

In the 57th minute in Northwestern's Big Ten lidlifter, Regazzoni played a ball to Aurea del Carmen, who earned a free kick deep in the Purdue half, just outside the 18-yard box. On the ensuing free kick, Regazzoni fired a shot into the top-right corner of the goal for the game's only goal in a 1-0 win. In defense, Regazzoni anchored the Northwestern midfield en route to a clean sheet. The 'Cats allowed just three shots on goal, Purdue's second-lowest total this season.

Northwestern opens its Big Ten home slate with a 7 p.m. CT kickoff at Martin Stadium.
