Weiss's Hat Trick Propels 'Cats past UIC

EVANSTON, Ill. – Justin Weiss scored early and often, collecting Northwestern's first hat trick since 2018, in a 4-1 victory against UIC on a rainy Monday night at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium.
The Wildcats improved to 5-0-1 overall, continuing to build on its best start to a season since 2008.
How it Happened
Northwestern started the scoring when Reese Mayer played a ball to Justin Weiss, who beat his defender and fired a shot past the UIC goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.
The Flames levelled the game on a goal from Joshua Torres in the fourth minute.
Northwestern then retook the lead in the 34th minute on a corner kick that took multiple deflections before falling to Rom Brown for his fourth of the season. Weiss and Mayer assisted the goal.
The Wildcats extended its lead with in the 35th minute when a Brandon Clagette throw-in deflected to Weiss, who headed it home for his fourth goal of the season..
In the 47th minute, Christopher Thaggard earned a penalty kick. Weiss stepped up and sent the UIC goalkeeper the wrong way for his fifth goal of the season.

- Weiss recorded the first Northwestern hat trick since Camden Buescher did so against Concordia Chicago on Oct. 26, 2018.
- NU outshot UIC 12-3, including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
