Northwestern Travels to Milwaukee for First Road Game of 2023

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern men's soccer will travel up I-94 on Friday for the team's first road game of the season against Milwaukee.
The Wildcats kicked off the 2023 campaign with victories over St. Thomas and NJIT, marking the first 2-0 start for the program since 2014. Led by senior forward Justin Weiss, who tallied the game-winning goal against the Tommies and the match-clinching assist against the Highlanders, Northwestern is looking to move to 3-0 for the first time since 2008, when it defeated San Francisco, IUPUI and Iona to open the season.
Friday's clash marks the 20th all-time meeting between the 'Cats and the Panthers, with Milwaukee holding a 14-3-2 advantage in the series. The two sides drew 1-1 last October as forward Joseph Arena netted the equalizer in the 57th minute.
The Panthers were pegged to finish seventh in the preseason Horizon League poll. Milwaukee lost its two leading goalscorers from last season, but returns a pair of midfielders, Gabe Anguil and Raul Medina, who tallied 13 and 12 points in 2022, respectively.
In their first and only game of the season thus far, the Panthers fell victim to a three-goal second half comeback by Chicago State, losing 3-2. Medina and Asher Ozuzu scored for Milwaukee.
Nine Wildcats — first-years Tyler Glassberg, Bryant Mayer, Owen Noverr, Kai Reis, Peter Riesz and Fritz Volmar, along with sophomore Henri Richter, senior Tyler Warren and graduate student Jackson Weyman — made their Northwestern debuts last week.
The 'Cats conclude their two-game road trip against Chicagoland foe DePaul on Monday, Sept. 4.
