KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Meg Boade, Northwestern's leading goalscorer in Big Ten play last season, was named to the 2023 Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday.
The senior midfielder is one of four Big Ten athletes and 56 Division I soccer players on the early season watch list. The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
Boade, who collected first team All-Big Ten honors and was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region team in 2022, will look to help Northwestern return to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2018. Starting in all 23 games for the 'Cats last season, Boade tallied seven goals and two assists, finishing third on the team in points with 16 — her five goals and 12 points in conference play ranked first on the team.
In Northwestern's season-opener against Marquette on Thursday, Boade was one of four 'Cats to score, also tacking on an assist in a commanding 4-0 victory over the Golden Eagles.
Northwestern will face Kansas State in its home opener on Sunday. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. CT and will air on B1G+.
