EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern welcomes Indiana to Rocky and Berenice Miller Park this weekend for a three-game series. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CT in Friday's opener, while Saturday and Sunday's contests will both commence at 1 p.m. CT. All three games will be streamed live on B1G+.
The Wildcats (8-31, 3-12 B1G) are coming off an offensive explosion in their mid-week victory over UIC. The 'Cats run-ruled UIC 17-7 in eight innings in Chicago behind a six-RBI day by Stephen Hrustich. It is the third-straight mid-week game that NU has won by 10+ runs.
Indiana heads to Evanston at 31-14, including a 9-6 record in conference play. Northwestern is 82-112-2 all-time against the Hoosiers, last winning 2-of-3 in Bloomington in 2022.
Michael Farinelli gets the nod on Friday for his 11th start of the season, tied for the most on the team. Sam Garewal and Luke Benneche will be on the hill for the 'Cats on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Tuesday's win over UIC was yet another impressive offensive showing from the Wildcats against a non-conference opponent. Every NU starter reached base safely, with the team tallying 13 hits. Alex Calarco, Hrustich, Bennett Markinson, Kevin Ferrer, and Marty Kaplan all recorded multi-hit games. Hrustich's notched a three-run homer, two-run single, and sacrifice fly for six RBI, blowing past his previous career-high of four against Michigan State on March 12, 2021.
Markinson recorded his third multi-hit game in the last five games. Since April 18, the sophomore is hitting .355 (11-for-31) with five runs scored.
Indiana is currently tied for third place in the Big Ten standings with Nebraska and Michigan. The Hoosiers had an eight-game winning streak snapped when they were swept by Big Ten leaders Maryland last weekend.
Northwestern will travel to Wisconsin to take on Milwaukee on Tuesday, before heading to Ann Arbor for a weekend series at Michigan next Friday.
