"Memories Don't Make Themselves" - By Sydney Supple

Wow, undefeated at The J. Take a moment and let that sink in. Together we made Evanston one of the TOUGHEST environments for teams to come in and play in the entire country. That is magical to be able to spend an entire season celebrating a win together after every home game as a program and community. For every player who stepped on that field for the last time in uniform, know you left a legacy that will forever be remembered. (Now let's build a bigger stadium so every person who walks into our stadium can have a place to sit…someone had to say it).

Mark my words, Regionals is the toughest weekend in college softball. We go from 64 teams to 16 in a matter of three days. This year, in particular, the stakes seemed higher, and the matchups seemed more level than ever before as there were extra-inning games, major upsets, and a ton of Championship Game 2's that took place this past Sunday to punch a ticket to Super Regionals.

As a team, to get the job done in three games spoke volumes, especially with the regional that we had full of well-coached teams and talented players. Each game took a different way to win that we were able to adjust to and get the job done. Our first game was a pitcher's duel, the second game was a power-hitting contest between both lineups, and the third was a back-and-forth comeback win that left everyone in the stadium on their toes until the very last out.

A team who knows how to win in all of those styles makes for a dangerous one. To walk away with back-to-back Regional Championships at home the past two years is something we do not take for granted, because we know it is not easy to achieve. However, our story does not end there as we head to Alabama with one mission in our mind: win two games and make it back to the Women's College World Series.

To start the week off right, we took a trip down memory lane as Kate shared with us the highlight video that Andrew Linnehan (Leenie's husband for those of you who don't know him) made for the 2006 Northwestern Women's College World Series team who took second place. The video was incredible being able to watch Tammy Williams, Garland Cooper, Courtnay Foster, Eileen Canney, and all of the alumni from that year put our program on the map. The reason why we watched this video is because of how closely intertwined our current team and that 2006 team is from how we play, treat the game, and interact as a team. How that team went out and competed that year against the best of the best lit a fire in us as we headed into Super Regionals.

The journey that we have been on this season so far has been one to remember, but there is still so much further that we want to go.

As we head to Alabama, I want to say this, memories don't make themselves. It is up to all of us to make this weekend the most memorable one yet. This weekend we'll play on the biggest stage under the brightest lights, just like we love, and have the opportunity to show everyone who Northwestern Softball is.

Sincerely,
Sydney
