Collins Named Naismith Coach of the Year Semifinalist

ATLANTA – Northwestern Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins was named a semifinalist for the 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Friday. The award recognizes outstanding performance by college basketball coaches and is one of the most prestigious awards in the sport.
Collins has led to Northwestern to a 21-10 record, including a 12-8 mark in Big Ten play. Northwestern's 12 conference wins are the most in a season in program history, and its 21 overall wins are second-most in program history.
The 10th-year head coach has accrued 155 wins at Northwestern, which ranks third in program history. Collins previously was one of four national finalists for the award in 2016-17 after guiding NU to a 24-12 overall record and the program's first NCAA Tournament. He owns three of the program's five all-time seasons of 20 or more wins.
The award's four finalists will be announced on Monday, March 20. The Fan Vote to help narrow the list down to the final honoree will open Tuesday, March 21, and close Tuesday, March 28. The fan vote will account for five percent of the overall final vote. The 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Trophy for Men's Coach of the Year will be awarded on Sunday, April 2 during the Men's Final Four.
