'Cats Drop Series Finale to Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, La. – Northwestern's scored nine runs in the first two innings, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats fell to Louisiana Tech 16-9 on Sunday.
Anthony Livermore notched four hits and added a walk to lead the Wildcats. Senior Stephen Hrustich put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Alex Calarco also chipped in for Northwestern, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats got the scoring started early, putting up six runs on the board in the top of the first inning. After an RBI single from Hrustich got the 'Cats on the board, Calarco, Foard, and Liolios slugged three consecutive doubles to extend the lead to 5-0. A Bennett Markinson RBI groundout tacked on another run to give NU a 6-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first.
The Bulldogs tacked on three in the bottom half of the first, before the Wildcats responded, expanding on their advantage in the second inning. Kevin Ferrer plated a run on a groundout to make it a 7-3 game, Stephen Hrustich doubled to drive in Owen McElfatrick and extend the lead to 8-3, and Alex Calarco recorded his second RBI of the day on a single through the right side, bringing the score to 9-3 in favor of the Wildcats. The Wildcats were unable to hold the lead, as Louisiana Tech scored 13 times over the remaining seven innings to grab the 16-9 win.
